Santa Fe, N.M. - New Mexico Interfaith Power & Light (NM-IPL) will launch Project HOW, a renewable energy and resilience initiative, during a live webinar on Thursday, October 30th, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM MT.

Project HOW (Houses of Worship) is a program that connects faith communities to opportunities to help make their facilities more energy efficient, sustainable, and potentially transition from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy. Through expert partnerships, technical resources, and financing options, NM-IPL and its partners aim to make these processes accessible and achievable for congregations across the state.

“Faith communities are uniquely positioned to lead by example,” said Desirée Bernard, Executive Director of New Mexico Interfaith Power & Light. “Project HOW helps them take practical steps to reduce energy use, transition to renewable energy, and strengthen their capacity to serve others—especially in times of need. It’s about making our values visible in the ways we care for our people, our places, and our planet.”

Project HOW connects congregations to:

  • Expert guidance on energy efficiency, electrification, and renewable energy adoption.
  • Trusted installation professionals and financing pathways, including direct ownership, leasing, or Power Purchase Agreements.
  • Hands-on, wraparound support to conduct energy audits, make efficiency upgrades, transition to renewable energy, and implement energy storage solutions.

Each participating congregation will be able to choose its own pathway, taking actions individually or in combination, based on its priorities and available resources.

Attendees of the Project HOW Launch Webinar will meet NM-IPL staff and partners and learn how their communities can:

  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Lower long-term energy costs
  • Increase energy efficiency
  • Build resilience and serve as visible hubs of hope and stability

Registration is free and open to the public.
