Our Pilgrimage in the News - a Spring 2026 Update

May 12, 2026

In the days and weeks since our pilgrimage concluded on February 5, we've been grateful to see the journey covered by a number of media outlets — from national climate publications to local news and faith-based media. We're sharing those stories here, in hopes that they carry the witness of our walk a little further.

Inside Climate News: A Pilgrimage That Joined a Global Wave

Inside Climate News documented how our three-person team trekked 328 miles past fossil fuel developments, through remote ranch lands, and deep into the desert — connecting with communities along the way and placing our journey alongside a broader global movement of faith-motivated environmental witness.

Center for Action and Contemplation: Seeds of Climate Justice

The Center for Action and Contemplation featured Executive Director Desirée Bernard's reflections in their We Conspire series, exploring how acts of faithful witness plant seeds with the power to bear fruit for generations. As Bernard reflected, "There is this idea of emergence — that each one of us finds a way to speak the truth we know and to join together with others working in synergistic ways. And until some of this fever breaks, we're sowing seeds that will someday provide shade for future generations."

Source New Mexico: Climate Organizations Urge Passage of the Clear Horizons Act

On February 5, as our pilgrims completed their journey in the Rotunda of the Roundhouse, a broad gathering of climate organizations urged lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 18, the Clear Horizons Act. Source New Mexico covered the moment, including NM-IPL's arrival and Executive Director Desirée Bernard's words to legislators.

"The Clear Horizons Act provides the critical framework New Mexico needs to hold polluters accountable and to protect communities from the worst impacts of climate change," said Bernard. "We have walked to express active hope in the family of humanity and pray for our elected leaders to have the political courage to meet the moment."

The Clear Horizons Act was ultimately defeated in the New Mexico Senate on February 11, with several Democrats joining Republicans to vote it down. But as Rev. Clara Sims reflected, the pilgrimage was always about more than a single outcome: "Taking an act of faith like this means that we believe in the power of things that aren't totally measurable to have these currents or ripple effects that might — even years or decades down the line — plant a seed in someone else to have the courage to take an action."

We are deeply grateful for everyone who walked with us — in body, in prayer, and in spirit. The road ahead remains long. We keep walking.
