Last night we were blessed by a visit from Rabbi Nahum Ward-Lev and Shelley Mann-Lev, who drove from Santa Fe and and brought us a pop-up sit down Sabbat dinner for 8 that we enjoyed in a small room off the lobby of the Quality inn in Moriarty- it was truly a marvel of generosity and epic proportions! Nahum led us in Shabbat prayers and ritual before feasting.
We were then hosted by Father Michael Coburn at the Church of Holy Cross in Edgewood for another Shabbat circle - Nahum and Shelley spoke about the practice of Sabbath and its power in both the Jewish Tradition as well as in our weekly lives as an act of resistance in which we withdraw our energy from the Imperial system of capitalism...a time to remember that we are not defined by what we produce, that our personal will is not what creates the world, but rather that we are a part of creation. Sabbath is a time to receive the presence of "the Queen", a time to step out of chores, work, buying things, social media, news feeds...and to return to our sense of wholeness, to see things in "wholes", rather than in separateness. That Sabbath is a time to receive life and creation energy, to listen and to rest.
Today, we are taking a real Sabbath Day. We are resting. Enjoying. And contemplating our impending arrival at the Roundhouse in just 5 days when we will join our many friends and collaborators as part of the robust climate coalition in New Mexico- including hundreds of kids coming to advocate for their future.
We look forward to delivering our prayers and the power of our steps to the Legislature.
